HCA Gulf Coast Division To Break Ground on Pearland Medical Center

Specialties in Orthopedics, Women’s Services, Emergency Care and Cardiovascular Health Planned to Meet Needs of Growing Community

September 10, 2013 – HCA Gulf Coast Division President Maura Walsh announces the groundbreaking for its $71 million, 144,000-square-foot Pearland Medical Center.

TPearland Medical Center will be located at the southwest intersection of Highway 288 and Shadow Creek Parkway on a 48-acre site currently home to a full-service, freestanding emergency department, imaging center and 3-story, 80,000 square foot medical office building.  The new, 30-bed acute care hospital will expand patient services to better meet healthcare needs in Pearland and surrounding communities, especially in the areas of obstetrical, surgical and cardiac services and additional outpatient diagnostic services.

The hospital will open in the Fall of 2014, and feature surgical suites, medical/surgical beds, intensive care beds and a 24-hour emergency department. Imaging services will include magnetic resonance imaging, computerized tomography, a catheterization lab, echocardiogram testing, and nuclear medicine modalities. The Center’s new women’s services will provide digital mammography, labor and delivery suites, cesarean-section operating rooms and a newborn nursery.

“The Pearland Medical Center groundbreaking emphasizes HCA Gulf Coast Division’s long-standing commitment to the residents of Pearland and Brazoria County by providing convenient, high-quality healthcare close to home,” Walsh said. “As an HCA affiliated hospital, Pearland Medical Center joins our continuum of nine other Houston-area medical centers, ambulatory surgery centers, diagnostic imaging facilities, and off-campus emergency centers.”

In addition, HCA Gulf Coast Division has a regional transfer center that provides ground and air transportation to and from any other HCA Gulf Coast Division Affiliated Hospital.  That service includes transfers to specialized facilities such as Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, The Woman’s Hospital of Texas and Texas Orthopedic Hospital.

“The groundbreaking of the new Pearland Medical Center marks the next phase of a long and healthy relationship between Pearland Medical Center and the Pearland community,” said Tom Reid, Pearland Mayor. “HCA Gulf Coast Division is delivering the right care at the right time to our residents in their own neighborhood.”

Pearland is the fastest growing community in the Houston area. The city’s population was projected to increase from 91,252 in 2010 to 123,119 in 2020 and to 141,993 in 2035, according to the Houston-Galveston Area Council’s 2013 Population and Employment Forecast.

Construction is scheduled to start in October. The Nashville-based Gould Turner Group has been selected as the project’s architects, and Skanska will build the hospital.
